Social Programme

The social program aims to provide participants with an insight into the historical and cultural surroundings of the city of Tomar.

It will begin at the Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. The architectural complex and its surroundings encapsulate the history not only of the city, but also of the country.

This will be followed by a visit to the lower town, the original name for the settlement outside the castle walls, in an orthogonal layout centered on the square that now houses the City Hall and the 15th-century Church of St. John the Baptist.

Wandering through the narrow streets of the old part of the city, participants will continue with a visit to the Synagogue, also established in the 15th century in what was then called the Jewish quarter, highlighting the important contribution of the Jews who settled here in the early 14th century. It is classified as a National Monument after its acquisition by the Polish Jew Dr. Samuel Schwarz, and the Luso-Hebrew Museum bearing his name is located here.

There will be a cocktail party at the Hotel dos Templários afterwards, for participants to socialize in a relaxed atmosphere.
